Six Senses AMAALA by Red Sea Global has achieved LEED Platinum certification

[Breaking News] Six Senses AMAALA by Red Sea Global has achieved LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of recognition within the LEED framework, marking a significant milestone for the project and its approach to hospitality design.

For U+A, the design of the 38,622 sqm retreat was driven by a clear objective: to create a hospitality destination that belongs to its landscape rather than simply occupying it.

Set within the distinctive landforms of AMAALA’s Triple Bay, the architecture was shaped around the site’s natural topography, with buildings carefully positioned across the hillside, coastline, and mangrove edge. The resulting composition is intentionally fragmented, allowing the development to follow the contours of the terrain while preserving the visual and spatial continuity of the surrounding landscape.

The architectural language draws from the morphology of traditional coastal villages, translating their compact scale, shaded passages, courtyards, and pedestrian streets into a contemporary hospitality environment. A sequence of intimate plazas, winding pathways, terraces, and framed views creates a gradual transition between private accommodation and the wider coastal setting.

Materiality was equally fundamental to the design strategy. Locally sourced materials and natural textures establish a visual connection with the geology of the site, while the architecture responds to the region’s environmental conditions through shaded spaces, carefully considered building orientations, and controlled exposure to the elements.

At the centre of the development, the Mesa forms a distinctive architectural intervention inspired by the site’s geological character. Its deep overhangs, carved spaces, and expressive massing reference the effects of wind and water erosion, creating an architecture that feels shaped by the landscape itself.

Modular construction was also incorporated to reduce ground disturbance and limit the extent of on-site works, supporting a more considered relationship between construction and the sensitive coastal environment.

The LEED Platinum certification reflects the depth of this integrated design approach, where the relationship between architecture and landscape informed decisions from site planning and orientation to material selection, construction methodology, and the experience of moving through the resort. At Six Senses AMAALA, these principles come together to create architecture that is closely rooted in its setting and responsive to the character of the Red Sea coast.
