Panel discussion hosted by Shamal Holding

[Event Recap] Today, we had the pleasure of joining an insightful panel discussion hosted by Shamal Holding, exploring the future of seafront being.
The discussion explored how waterfront environments are shaping the way we live, invest, and design our cities. The panel discussion unpacked the YouGov research on the subject, drawing over 1000 UAE respondents.
Representing U+A, our Director, Steve Denyer, AAA MRAIC, MCIAT, shared his perspective on designing seafront destinations that balance exceptional user experiences, functionality, indoor -outdoor spaces, and long-term sustainability. His perspective drew attention to the importance of creating places that connect people with the waterfront while preserving the natural qualities that make coastal environments so valuable.
A key theme throughout the conversation was the role of nature-led design solutions in building resilient coastlines. From restoring coral reefs and expanding mangrove ecosystems to integrating natural coastal systems into urban development, the discussion ensued different aspects including how working with nature can help protect waterfront communities while enhancing biodiversity and long-term environmental performance.
The panel was expertly moderated by Yazad D. of White Paper Media Consulting , who guided a thought-provoking conversation between an outstanding group of industry experts. Alongside Stephen, the panel featured Dr Khaula Alkaabi, Professor at UAE University, who brought an academic perspective on urban planning and sustainability; Shehzad Jamal , Partner – Strategy & Consultancy at Knight Frank, who shared insights into evolving lifestyle preferences and the value of seafront real estate; and Duncan Denley, Founder & Managing Director of Desert INK, who discussed the role of landscape architecture and nature-led design in strengthening coastal resilience.
